Sterling Black is a decent first book by C.J. Stark. The story focuses on Ellie, an aspiring romance writer, and Sterling, a friend of Ellie's brother who is now a blacksmith.Ellie is in need of a little help in the sex department to be able to write "what she knows" and she turns to Sterling, a man she has wanted since the age of eighteen, to help her out. Both Ellie and Sterling have suffered loss in their lives, Ellie losing her mother and Sterling his wife and daughter.
The reader is given glimpses of Ellie and Sterling's past, but not quite enough to get a true picture of each of them. I would have liked to have known a bit more about how Sterling lost his family and what the trouble was between him and his wife before her tragic accident. The same holds true for Ellie. As a reader, I would have liked to see more about Ellie's dad and brother, especially how her brother might have reacted to Ellie receiving instructional sex from his childhood buddy. i was also a bit confused by Sterling having an illness towards the end of the book. That could have been explained a bit better I think.
Those things aside, the chemistry and heat between Ellie and Sterling was palpable. I liked that they were both trying to figure out how to make their situation permanent, and I enjoyed their interactions together.
I think this was a good first effort by Ms. Stark, the story line was interesting and it had a nice side of kink thrown in. I enjoyed this read.

This is Stark's first romance novel and I hope it's not her last...Sterling Black kicked some serious ass...the storyline kept me interested...the main characters, Sterling and Ellie were so hot together, I think smoke was oozing out of my IPad...Stark knows how to write a sex scene...I was completely impressed with this book...if this is any indication of what's to come from Stark, we are in for more happy reading!!
Sometimes Sterling says the wrong thing, but Ellie she knows how to put him in his place, “what makes you effing think I want to eff anyone other than you, you effer?” I shout." I liked this book, I liked Ellie and Sterling together. Maybe Julie will get a book of her own.
Really enjoyed reading this book. When Ellie has a lack of hot sex in her upcoming book she needs to find someone who can give her inspiration and she knows 1 man who can help but who has hurt her in the past, her brother's best friend Sterling. Sterling is thrilled when he sees he will be seeing Ellie again and is reluctant to help or so it seems and he agrees for a month. Scorching hot chemistry between them both. Will their sexual relationship end or will it only be the beginning. Great debut and look forward to what CJ writes next
I really liked this book! It's a great debut from new author C.J. Stark & it's definitely worth reading! There were a few things that I wasn't crazy about that left me confused, with a couple of questions. What was with the Dad & his shot gun wedding? Why did Ellie's brother, who never gets in touch with her, all of a sudden send a text-while she was in Sterling's driveway? I wish I knew more about Ellie & Sterling and their pasts. The author gives enough background information on the characters to get by but I would've liked to know more about Sterlings marriage and Ellie's adventures & her relationship with her Dad. I found myself smiling while I read this book! It's cute, sexy, surprising & 100% worth reading! I really loved the ending too!! This was an excellent debut book & I hope the author writes another book with Ellie's friend Julie & maybe Ellie's brother Ben! I'd definitely read future books by C.J. Stark!
